Junior & Senior High School
The program is structured to meet the needs of each student and can be easily tailored to each student’s ability. Please read the following and call with any questions that you or your student may have. We would welcome the opportunity to have your student be a part of our program this fall.
The classroom is a controlled multi grade environment that is individually structured for each student’s needs. The students can take as much time as they need to master a concept. If they are having difficulty a teacher is at the student’s side to provide one on one help and direction. The student’s academic ability determines how quickly the material is covered with quarter and semester goals outlined from the beginning of each semester. Students may complete their daily goals in all subjects and then proceed to work ahead in the subject of their interest or expertise. The bright motivated student has the opportunity to excel, and a student who needs more time to absorb certain material has the opportunity to do so without traditional classroom pressures.
It is feasible for a student to complete far more curricula than in a traditional setting by just being diligent and using their academic time wisely. The five core subjects are Bible, Math, English, Social Studies and Science. At the High School level there are twelve electives that can be chosen above the five core subjects: Accounting, Consumer Math, American Literature, English Literature, Composition, Geography, Anthropology/Sociology, Civics, Astronomy, Geology, Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Computer Literacy, and Business Computer Information Systems. There are certain courses that can be substituted for core curriculum depending on the diploma the student is working towards. (See the Secondary Director with questions.) If junior high students complete the required work, they will continue progressing in the curriculum to the next level (grade) of curriculum. This could facilitate the completion of more than one grade year of work which they will get credit for on their transcript. (Work must be completed by the semester for complete credit to be awarded and recorded as completed work on the transcript.)
The student will receive a report card after each academic quarter of the school year. The first and second quarters are averaged together for the first semester grade and the third and fourth quarters are averaged together for a second semester grade. There are NO final exams to be taken at the end of the semesters.
Every two weeks there will be an activity (educational or just fun) for everyone in the program. These activities will be charged based on the activity. We already have a visit to the King Tut exhibit at the Art Museum and a performance of “A Christmas Carol” during the Christmas season at the
The school year will begin on September 7, 2010, and conclude on May 27, 2011. The school day will begin at 8:30 AM and conclude at 3:30 PM.
